The woman required therapy and anti-anxiety medication after the attack that occurred shortly after she dropped her grandchildren off at a birthday party, Assistant District Attorney Linda Weinman said.

“I just got out of jail and I don’t care… You won’t be around to see your grandkids,” Lucas allegedly told his victim during the attack, according to the case file. “How did you know he had grandchildren?” she asked after the hearing. “That really scared me.”

Authorities stressed that Lucas did not apologize for the rape, in which he also strangled his victim, and instead claimed that it had been a consensual encounter.

Prosecutors accused Lucas of threatening to stab and shoot the woman, then raped her three times before breaking into a parked van and attempting to rape her once more.

Lucas was carrying a bible and left the holy book at the scene of the heinous crime. Judge Heidi Cesare also sentenced him to 15 years of post-release supervision and asked to be included in the sex offender registry.
