All first-generation RS 6 models (C5) were produced both on the assembly line and manually by hand. Off the assembly line, they were driveable, but far from perfect. For example, these models lacked padded damping, special RS components, as well as individual interior elements. Therefore, it was necessary to move from the Nekarsulma production facility to the adjacent building. Here, the employees of quattro GmbH completed each car individually in just over 15 hours on a hydraulic lift.

To this day, the C5 is the only RS 6 that was originally a racing car. The RS 6 Competition model fielded by the Champion Racing team far outscored the competition in the 2003 SPEED GT World Challenge with driver Randy Pobst. The V8 biturbo engine produced 475 hp, had a manual gearbox and won the first race.

At the end of the series, quattro GmbH added even more power, providing 480 hp instead of the previous 450 hp, and adding a “plus” to the name. The torque remained at 560 Nm. Now the maximum speed already reached 280 km/h instead of the previous 250 km/h.

C8: The best so far, but the work never ends

In 2019, three years before its 20th birthday, the fourth generation of the RS 6 (C8) hit dealerships and remained steadfastly true to its heritage. Four-liter engine, biturbo, 600 hp, now with 800 Nm of torque. For the first time in history, this car is supported by a 48-volt partial hybrid system, which further improves efficiency. Although this model is heavier, the RS 6 Avant is able to reach 100 km/h in a mere 3.6 seconds, and it takes 12 seconds to reach 200 km/h.
