For three days now, the wildest speculation has surrounded the sanctions taken by Twitch against one of its biggest stars, Dr DisRespect. To everyone’s surprise, the famous American streamer, who had more than 4 million subscribers on his channel dedicated to video games, was definitively banned by the broadcasting platform on Friday for “violation of community rules and conditions general “. No details on the reason, but, rare, all subscriptions to the channel of Dr DisRespect were refunded in the process. The strange latest video of the streamer and the laconic statements of the parties concerned reinforce the mystery around the case.

“Permanent Banishment”

It all started with the sudden removal of Dr DisRespect’s account, Herschel Beahm IV from his real name, on Friday June 26 in the day by Twitch. The only explanation is a generic Twitch statement reported by reporter Shannon Liao: “In accordance with our procedures, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has violated our community rules and terms and conditions. This applies to all streamers, regardless of their status or importance within the community. ”.

Shortly after, sports journalist Rod Breslau spoke of sources claiming that it was a “permanent ban.” Many subscribers to Dr DisRespect, reporting having received the full refund by Twitch for their subscription, quickly confirmed this hypothesis. Such a thing had only happened when streamers Ninja and Shroud left Twitch for Mixer, reports Forbes reporter Paul Tessi. As for Rod Breslau, he claims to know the reason for the sanction, but that because of “the importance and sensitivity of the subject”, he prefers not to talk about it.

“Where will it go…”

Following the removal of Dr DisRespect’s account, Internet users quickly noticed the strange last video of the streamer, in which he displayed agitated behavior. After receiving a message on his phone during the stream, Dr DisRespect then seems to acknowledge the blow, and remains silent for long seconds. He then grumbles strange words: “We are going to … We will get out of it Champions Club (note: the name of its community of fans). I know it’s not easy. Life is weird right now. We will get out of it… ”. He then abruptly concludes the broadcast with a “Shit!” resounding.

The first to speak on the matter was the wife of Dr DisRespect, known by the pseudonym “Mrs Assassin”. In an Instagram post published on Saturday, she thanked the fan community for their “support, love and kindness”. Then, after a long silence, Dr. DisRespect finally addressed his Twitter subscribers on Sunday, claiming … that he didn’t know why Twitch had banned him: “Twitch didn’t inform me of the specific reasons behind their decision … Close handshake to everyone for support during this difficult time. ”

Vague #metoo

As for Twitch, the platform has still not expressed itself officially on the final ban of the streamer, refusing to publicly confirm the sanction. It nevertheless intervenes in a particular context, since the world of gaming and streaming is currently shaken by a #metoo movement which has exposed dozens of experiences of sexual assault and harassment in the community. Exactly a week ago, Twitch said it would “investigate law enforcement accounts if necessary”. The streamer Dr DisRespect was not one of the persons accused of the charges, however.

Three days after the facts, the mystery remains unresolved on the reasons which pushed Twitch to brutally separate from its goose that lays the golden eggs. But given the importance of the sanction and the eagerness of Twitch to reimburse subscriptions, it is unlikely that the reasons for the ban remain unknown to the general public for a long time.
