Washington had initially pledged to donate 750,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine but increased that number as President Joe Biden’s administration advanced its pledge to ship 80 million US-made vaccines worldwide.

“What a view! What a great attitude!” Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu tweeted on Saturday evening (June 19), linking to images of the vaccine being loaded onto the China Airlines Boeing 777 freighter at the Memphis airport.
“Taiwan-US relations are very strong, & we will continue to work closely together in the fight against COVID19. The power for good will prevail!” he added as quoted from Channel News Asia, Sunday (20/6/2021).
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen tweeted she was touched by the US move.
“Thank you to the US for this touching signal of friendship. This vaccine will greatly help keep Taiwan safe & healthy,” he said.
The United States, like most countries, has no formal diplomatic relations with Taiwan. However, the US is the most important international backer of China’s anger.
2.5 million doses modern vaccines , which will arrive at Taiwan’s main international airport on Sunday afternoon, will double the number of vaccines arriving on the island, including 1.24 million AstraZeneca vaccine donated by Japan earlier this month.
