171 new cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed in Latvia; two people are dead

One of the deceased was in the age group from 70 to 75 years, and the other – from 85 to 80 years.

Proportion of positive cases against those tested: 3.3%.

In Latvia, a total of 6439 people became ill and 1444 recovered.

During the last 24 hours, 5235 COVID-19 examinations were performed, 171 new cases of infection were registered, 2 persons died (1 person in the age group from 70 to 75, 1 person in the age group from 85 to 80).

World Health Organization (WHO) has named the disease caused by the new coronavirus. It is called Covid-19. The name is made up of the words “corona”, “virus” and “disease”. The number 19, in turn, indicates the year in which the outbreak of the virus began. The first reports of the virus outbreak appeared on December 31 last year.
