1,588 more new corona infections in Austria

After rising to over 2,000 cases on Saturday, the number of new corona infections fell again on Sunday. According to data from the Ministry of Health and the Interior, 1,588 infections were registered within 24 hours (as of 9:30 a.m.) – 1,678 on Sunday last week. Eight people died with or from Corona.

The number of new infections registered is below the average for the past seven days (1,694 cases). The seven-day incidence was 132.7 cases per 100,000 population. As of Sunday there were 21,239 active cases in Austria, 241 more than on Saturday.

There have already been 735,890 confirmed cases in Austria since the start of the pandemic. 703,682 people have recovered since the outbreak of the epidemic, and 1,339 were considered healthy again in the past 24 hours.

There have been eight deaths since yesterday, the seven-day average was 10.6 per day. 74 deaths have been recorded in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 10,969 deaths in Austria since the outbreak.

There were 860 people in the hospital on Sunday, four fewer than on Saturday. 229 people were cared for in intensive care units. This number has increased by three since yesterday and has increased by 17 patients within a week.

A total of 427,663 PCR and rapid antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 99,343 were more informative PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests was 1.6 percent. This 24-hour value is above the average of the previous week (an average of 1.2 percent of the PCR tests positive).

9,115 vaccinations were carried out on Saturday. According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, a total of 5,706,093 have already received at least one partial vaccination: that is 63.9 percent of the population. 5,388,466 people and thus 60.3 percent of Austrians are already fully immunized.

The vaccination rate (fully immunized) is highest in Burgenland at 67.9 percent. In Lower Austria 63 percent of the population are vaccinated, in Styria 60.9 percent. After Vorarlberg (59.3), Vienna (59), Tyrol (58.7), Carinthia (56.8) and Salzburg (56.7), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination rate of 55.5 percent.

The federal state with the highest 7-day incidence is currently Upper Austria with 182.6, followed by Vienna, Salzburg and Lower Austria (176.5, 126.4 and 117.7, respectively). Carinthia (97.5), Styria (94.9), Tyrol (94.5), Vorarlberg (94.2) and Burgenland (70.9) also follow.
