[Explanation]On September 6, the 14th Greater Mekong Sub-region Drug Control Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signatory Ministerial Meeting hosted by the Chinese government was held in Beijing, and a media meeting was held after the meeting.

The Greater Mekong Subregion Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Mechanism on Anti-drug Cooperation was jointly established by Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (hereinafter referred to as “UNODC”) to deal with prominent drug problems in the region .

In order to reflect its support for the international anti-drug cause, from 2024, the Chinese government will increase its annual anti-drug donation to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to 2 million U.S. dollars, focusing on the development of the MOU mechanism. The heads of delegations from all parties delivered speeches at the meeting, calling on all parties in the mechanism to continue to work together to jointly address the challenges of drug governance.

The meeting reviewed and approved a series of cooperation documents including the twelfth edition of the “Sub-regional Action Plan”, the “Beijing Declaration”, and “China’s Initiative on the Signatories of the Memorandum of Understanding on Drug Control Cooperation in the Greater Mekong Sub-region to Jointly Address the Synthetic Drug Problem” to further deepen practical cooperation, Innovate mechanism development and promote drug control.
