138 jobs threatened at Lunch Garden restaurant chain: for now …

At restaurant chain Lunch Garden, 138 of the approximately 1,100 jobs are on the slope. The management announced this intention to restructure on Tuesday in a special works council. No branches would be closed for the time being. The exact consequences for the staff and the restaurants are discussed in the negotiations with the management.

Lunch Garden says, like other catering companies, it has been badly affected by the corona crisis. That is why the chain wants to save costs and the company says in a press release that it has no choice but to reduce the workforce, with a maximum of 138 jobs. The company wants to avoid the number of naked layoffs as much as possible.

The management says it is convinced “that by taking this step Lunch Garden will maintain its position as an established value”. Whether the transformation plan also means that stores will be closed is not said in the press release.

This is already the third round of layoffs in ten years at Lunch Garden. The unions had feared for some time about a new round of cuts. For example, CEO Annick Van Overstraeten had to step down in the middle of the corona crisis. She “did not agree with the plans that the shareholder had for the staff,” it said in May.

According to the union, the financial top man has already left the company. Moreover, many of the chain’s restaurants have still not opened their doors.
