In Rwanda, nearly 130 people have already been killed by floods and landslides. The natural disaster caused a lot of damage in a large part of the country in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.
Rescue work in a number of hard-hit areas is still underway. People are evacuated and temporarily housed elsewhere.
“We are doing everything we can to deal with this difficult situation,” President Paul Kagame said. He expressed his condolences to the victims and the relatives.
Last night there were also deaths in neighboring Uganda as a result of heavy rain. Six people died in the southwest of the country. Uganda and Rwanda have both been experiencing frequent and persistent rain showers since the end of March.
