13 thousand producers improve soil quality with agronomic technologies – Inforegion

With the purpose of celebrating Farmers’ Day this June 24, the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) has been transferring agronomic technology to more than 13,000 farmers to improve the quality of their agricultural soils. With this initiative, they have increased their agricultural production.

The Soil and Water Project promoted by the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), has analyzed more than 18,000 samples in 10 regions of the country. The results of this have helped improve composting and fertilization plans, define conservation and recovery technologies for degraded soils, increasing the quality of agricultural production.

INIA-MIDAGRI, through its Agricultural Experimental Stations, has put into operation a network of 12 soil, water and foliar laboratories that have been carrying out soil characterization and fertility, water quality and organic fertilizer analyzes in the Ancash, San Martin, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Junin, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Puno, Ucayali and Lima.

To date, 52 research projects are conducted focused on the recovery of degraded soils for agriculture, livestock and forestry, comprehensive soil fertility strategies, organic waste management, digital mapping for comprehensive soil management, agricultural production systems , soil organic carbon management in the different agricultural production systems, among others.

This project will benefit more than 72 thousand farmers to have access to research services and technology transfer in the management and recovery of degraded agricultural soils so that they improve the quality of their agricultural production. It seeks to promote management, recovery and conservation for sustainable soil management, INIA informed INFOREGIÓN.
