13 Indonesian Regions Taste 5G in 2024, This is the Government’s Challenge …

Solopos.com, JAKARTA – A total of 13 Indonesian regions will taste 5G services in 2024. Telecommunication observers assess that each location that will taste 5G services in 13 regions of Indonesia in 2024 has different challenges.

Chair of the Indonesian Center for Industrial Policy and Telecommunication Regulation Studies ITB Ian Yosef M. Edward said the challenge in delivering 5G services to super priority tourist destination locations, possibly lies in the deployment of optical fiber networks, as the core infrastructure of 5G.

He assessed that some locations may not be connected by optical fiber, so it requires a large cost and time to pull the cable. “Those near East Nusa Tenggara are still close to the fiber optic network, but some are far away,” said Ian to Indonesian Business Information Network (JIBI), Thursday (25/3/2021).

He explained that the fiber optic problem was not found in six capital city locations on the island of Java. He believes these cities have good optical access from telecommunications operators.

Capital Relocation

Meanwhile, the problem in the State Capital (IKN), which is planned to be moved from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, concerns the certainty of development. Without certainty for the construction of the IKN, telecommunications operators will be lazy to deploy fiber optics. As a result, the dream of providing 5G access at IKN has vanished.

Ian also highlighted the condition of the manufacturing industry. According to him, there must be a clear case example by 2024, which requires a manufacturing industry to use 5G to operate, at least to be more efficient.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Broadband Infrastructure Division of the Indonesian Telematics Society (Mastel) Nonot Harsono said the Ministry of Communication and Information needed to explain in more detail the plan to deliver 5G in 13 locations.

“What must be prepared in the 13 locations, optical cables for the backbone, optical cables for distribution and backhaul networks, optical cables to thousands of BTS, and so on,” said Nonot.
