13 collections of poems were nominated for the Ojāras Vācieša prize in poetry

The collection of poems will be evaluated by a competition committee of five people: member of the Đāžu county council and chairman of the Daiga Mieriņa committee, poet and translator, winner of the O. Vācieš 2009 prize Edvīns Raups, director of the O. Vācieš Ieva Museum Ķise, primary school of Carnikava school teacher Ilze Vāciete and poetess, The winner of the O. Väcieša 2018 award is Daina Sirma.

As usual, on November 13, on the occasion of the poet’s birthday, the winner of the Ojāras Vācieš prize will be announced.

The organizer of the annual contest of the Ojāras Vācieš literary prize is the municipality of Ādažu district, which is carrying on the succession of tradition previously maintained by the municipality of Carnikava.

The prize-giving event is organized by the municipality in collaboration with the Ojāras Vācieš Museum and the Ojāras Vācieš Society.

The German prize was presented for the first time in 1984, its winners were the poets Jānis Peters, Vytauts Lūdēns and Ivans Dračs, in 1988 the prize went to Vizma Belševica, Māra Zālīte, Jānis Baltvilks and Juris Kronbergs and in 1993 – Imants Ziedonis, Māra Mellēna, Ernests Spīčs, Valdis Muktupāvels and Guntars Godiņš.

In 2003, the Ādažu county council together with the Carnikava parish council renewed the O. Vācieš award, but from 2011 to 2020 the award was presented by the Carnikava county council.
