11,500 flex workers apply for corona benefits, half are rejected NOW

UWV benefits agency received 11,500 applications in the first week of the Temporary Bridging Scheme for Flexible Workers (TOFA), the UWV reports on Tuesday. Five thousand applications came in on Monday alone. However, a large part of the applications are rejected, UWV writes.

The scheme is intended for flex workers who have suddenly lost a large part of their income due to the corona crisis and who cannot fall back on a social safety net. Employees with flexible contracts and corona loss of income can apply for the allowance until 12 July.

Flex workers are entitled to the account if they earned at least 400 euros gross in February and received a maximum of half of this two months later due to the corona crisis. For the months of March, April and May, they can get back 550 euros gross per month from the UWV, converted 1,650 euros in total.

UWV writes that a large part of the applicants received the 1,650 euros gross on the account, but that many applications are also rejected. More than half of applicants would not be entitled to the TOFA scheme, because people earned too little in February or too much in April.
