103-year-old woman becomes oldest person to recover from coronavirus

A 103-year-old woman became the oldest person to fight the coronavirus and return home.

Zhang Guangfen recovered from the disease after receiving treatment for only six days in a hospital in Wuhan – the Chinese city at the center of the epidemic. The rapid recovery of this centenary is due to its absence of health problems. “Zhang Guangfen only suffered from mild chronic bronchitis,” his doctor, Dr. Zeng Yulan, told reporters. She was diagnosed at Liyuan Hospital, Tongji Medical College in Wuhan on March 1, reports the Chutian Metropolis Daily. The newspaper published a video showing the woman escorted out of the hospital to an ambulance waiting by a group of medical workers as she left Tuesday.

Seniors and those with pre-existing health conditions are at higher risk of developing severe coronavirus symptoms. The grandmother has become the oldest person to recover from the deadly disease so far – a few days after a 101-year-old man also fought the virus in Wuhan. A 100-year-old man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension and heart failure also recovered from the virus in Wuhan this week after being treated by military doctors.

The 11 million inhabitants of Wuhan have been in quarantine since the end of January. The disease has infected more than 80,700 people in China and killed more than 3,000 affected.
