Due to lymphatic cancer diagnosed in 1999, on April 17, 2014, Gabriel García Márquez, an outstanding writer, novelist, journalist and Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982, died in Mexico City, a distinction received thanks to several of his most famous novels, among which his famous “One Hundred Years of Solitude” undoubtedly stands out.
On his tenth anniversary of death, this Wednesday the first preview of the masterpiece written by the Colombian was released, but now in an audiovisual version which will be produced by Netflix and will be available on the renowned streaming platform in 2024.
What is known about the series
The direction will be by Laura Mora and Alex García López and from now on, in Colombia “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is considered one of the most ambitious and risky audiovisual projects in the history of New Granada television.

The series will have the endorsement of the “Gabo” family and some of the demands will be maintained, such as that the language is not altered and remains in Spanish and also that the locations are in Colombia (Departments of La Guajira, Magdalena , Cesar, Cundinamarca and Tolima).
The acting staff will include important Latin TV personalities such as Claudio Cataño (Colonel Aureliano Buendía as an adult), Jerónimo Barón (Aureliano Buendía as a child), Marco González (Jose Arcadio Buendía), Leonardo Soto (José Arcadio Jr.), Susana Morales (Úrsula Iguaran), Ella Becerra (Petronila), Carlos Suarez (Aureliano Iguarán), Moreno Borja (Melquíades) and Santiago Vásquez (adolescent Aureliano Buendía).
“One Hundred Years of Solitude” will be available on Netflix starting in the second half of 2024, and will have 16 episodes (the duration of each one is not yet known). Among its team of executive producers are Diego Ramírez Schrempp, Juliana Flórez Luna, Andrés Calderón, Josep Amorós, Carolina Caicedo, Alex García López, Laura Mora, José Rivera, Rodrigo García, Gonzalo García Barcha.
