1. FC Saarbrücken Signs New Striker: Boosting Squad Power and Ambitions

1. FC Saarbrücken has signed a new striker after starting in the third division. He comes from a second division club.

Shortly after the 1-1 draw in the third division opener against SSV Ulm, 1. FC Saarbrücken became active again on the transfer market. With Simon Stehle, FCS has signed a new attacker.

The 21-year-old was last under contract with Hannover 96 and spent last season in the 3rd division as a player on loan from Viktoria Köln. Stehle is now moving to Saarland.

According to the club, his transfer is not a reaction to the mixed start to the season against promoted Ulm – but to Sebastian Jacob’s injury. The veteran tore a cruciate ligament during the summer preparations.

“After Sebi Jacob’s tragic injury, we had to step up our offensive squad again,” says coach Rüdiger Ziehl. “Simon Stehle brings the speed and dynamism we want for the attacking game. He has had an excellent education and has the necessary potential to significantly improve our power in and around the opposing penalty area.”

The German-Colombian was born in Spain and switched from there to the Hanover youth team in 2017. For the professionals of the 96er he played five second division games and scored one goal before Stehle was loaned to the third division for two years.

First at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, with whom the striker celebrated promotion a year ago. Then to Viktoria Cologne. Stehle collected 34 appearances with four goals and three assists during this time. Now he continues with the ambitious Saarbrücken team. Overall, Stehle is the eighth newcomer to the Ziehl team.

“Saarbrücken has earned an excellent reputation in the league with its fans and the great atmosphere in the stadium,” Stehle said in a club statement about his move. “FCS is the ideal platform for me to develop further and take the next step in my career.”
