ANNOUNCEMENTS

Another lightning delivery van goes missing from the Netherlands. German brand Gorillas is taken over by Turkish competitor Getir. According to the Financial Times, Getir pays 1.2 billion euros for the gorillas. Getir does not want to confirm this amount.

Internationally, Getir is much larger than Gorilla. The Turkish company had a turnover of about 1 billion dollars last year, while the German competitor had a turnover of 220 million euros.

In the Netherlands, Getir is the smallest player. The company had an estimated €23 million in revenue here in 2021, according to a list of the largest online stores by Twinkle. Gorillas sold more than triple in the Netherlands. Number 2 on the Dutch market is Flink with a turnover of 53 million euros.

Uncertain times lie ahead for the couriers of the services. In most of the cities where Gorilla messengers ride their bikes, Getir suppliers are also active. It is not yet known whether and, if so, how many branches they will close.

Earlier this year, 1500 delivery drivers worked in Getir in the Netherlands, the number driving the Gorilla is unknown. According to a Reuters news agency source, Getir expects to lay off 14% of its staff.

Previously, Briton Zapp left the Netherlands. Meal delivery companies are also withdrawing from markets where they cannot yet make money. At the end of November, meal delivery company Deliveroo stopped deliveries to the Netherlands.
