Canberra / Sydney – 17.10.21: On October 15, 2021, the Australian Prime Minister released another statement on the next steps for Australia’s reopening plan. Initially, fully vaccinated Australian citizens and their families, as well as residents with permanent residence permits, will be granted entry. Over time, international visitors should also be welcomed again. This is in line with the government’s announcement in early October 2021 of the next steps for Australia’s plan to reopen international travel.

The government of the state of New South Wales (NSW) announced that starting November 1, 2021, Australian citizens and residents with permanent residence fully compliant with a vaccine approved for use in Australia or approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration ( TGA), are vaccinated, will not be quarantined upon arrival in that state.

There have been some changes to the roadmap, including what those who are fully vaccinated or who have a medical exemption can do at 80% double dose, and from 1 November.

Further information on the compulsory test and the associated conditions for those entering NSW will be announced in the coming days. Australian citizens and residents with permanent residence who are not vaccinated or have been vaccinated with a vaccine that is not approved or recognized by the TGA will continue to be subject to a 14-day hotel quarantine.

As Australians vaccinate, more parts of the country will move from Phase B to Phase C of a four-step plan. International travel is slated to reopen to fully vaccinated Australian travelers in November 2021, when 80 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. The lifting of the travel ban on Australians overseas is an important step in fully opening international borders.

At the time this news was published, no reliable forecast can be made as to when Australia will reopen its borders for tourism markets such as German-speaking countries. According to Tourism Australia, the Australian government has announced that it will continue to work towards quarantine-free travel for fully vaccinated travelers from certain countries.
