Sean Connery's first Bond pistol sells for $ 256K

A Walther PP automatic pistol, wielded by Sean Connery in his James Bond debut in Dr. No, sold for more than a quarter of a million dollars at a classic Hollywood memorabilia auction on Thursday.

The Walther PP and PPK have been a part of Bond’s iconography since the first film in the series in 1962, with the image of the pistol incorporated into the “007” logo. Seller Julien’s Auctions announced that the anonymous winning bidder is an American fan who, with his children, has seen the entire Bond series. The bidder paid $ 256,000, well above the property’s estimated value of $ 150,000 to $ 200,000.

BAPTY, the UK firm that provided support weapons for Dr. No, identified this disabled Walther as one of the two used in the film. BAPTY sold that Walther PP at a 2006 auction from their archives.

Connery, the first James Bond on the big screen, died in October at the age of 90. He played Secret Agent 007 in seven films, the last being in 1983. Never say never again. Connery’s last on-screen role was in 2003. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and retired in 2006. Connery was knighted in 2000 and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for 1988 The Untouchables.

The Icons & Idols Hollywood online auction featured more than 500 items, including accessories, costumes, personal effects and memorabilia from decades of film and television production.
