Japan lost to Costa Rica 0-1 at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In the second leg of Group E of the World Cup group stage held on the 27th, Japan showed an overall lead, but rarely had a chance to score a goal.
In the midst of this, Costa Rican right-back Kisher Fuller’s left-footed shot led to a goal with 10 minutes remaining.
This gave Costa Rica a win after a 7-0 loss to Spain earlier, and Japan missed a chance to secure a place in the round of 16 early.
Japan still hold onto second place in Group E after this defeat, but the pressure is mounting as one match remains against Spain, a traditional football powerhouse.
On the 1st of next month, Japan will face Spain.
