The incident happened at a villa hosting a company event in the central town of Karmi Yosef, 40 kilometers southeast of Tel Aviv.

The victim has been identified as a 32-year-old company employee. A couple in their 60s who owned the property were arrested on suspicion of causing the death.

Mobile phone video of the incident shows people in swimsuits in and around a half-empty pool watching in shock as the water drains into a large hole, taking inflatable pool mattresses with them.

A man who came closer to take a look almost slipped into the hole but managed to crawl out – just missing and he would have been pulled into the water.

The media reports that the victim Klil Kimhi fell into the 13-meter deep hole. It is said that it took rescue teams four hours to find him.

The other man also fell into the pit but managed to get out with minor injuries.

One partygoer told Israel’s Channel 12 News that there were about 50 people at the party, while another said there were only about six people in the pool when the hole opened at the bottom of the pool, Israeli media reported.

“The water level suddenly started to drop and a hole opened up, creating an opening that sucked two people in,” one woman said.

The Times of Israel quoted local media as saying the homeowner had built the pool without planning permission in a location with known infrastructure problems.
