Ukraine is experiencing a critical shortage of ammunition and is gradually running out of air defense missiles, writes The Telegraph.
By the end of this month, Ukrainian air defense missiles will be almost exhausted, which will seriously threaten the country’s major cities. Ukraine will soon be able to shoot down only 1 out of every 5 enemy missiles fired at cities, the publication states.
This will have a “significant effect on Ukraine’s urban centers,” the Washington Post quoted two Ukrainian officials as saying. This week, Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s prime minister, said Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee in this year’s US presidential election, had told him he would not give more money to Ukraine.
Right now, the Joe Biden administration wants to transfer $60 billion to Kiev, but that military aid is blocked in Congress. Russia has stepped up missile and drone attacks against Ukraine. A missile strike on Odessa on Friday killed 20 people, the highest single-day war toll in Ukraine’s main port city.
On the front, Ukrainian forces are reportedly rapidly digging new trenches and erecting anti-tank traps to slow the Russian advance and counter criticism that they failed to properly plan their defenses during last year’s counteroffensive.
Meanwhile, on the political scene in Washington, attacks are intensifying. The big news this week, President Joe Biden said over the weekend in Washington, was that two candidates won their party’s nomination for president. But one is too old, too mentally unfit for the job, the head of state said. “I’m the other one,” Biden was quoted as saying by the Associated Press, referring to Trump.
