In fact, it could happen to anyone to find old coins that belonged to their grandfather in an old coin purse abandoned in a drawer. Well, such a find can almost seem like a Lotto win.

The case that the editorial experts will analyze today, however, concerns a truly emblematic and very important piece for the history of Italy. It will be enough to continue reading to understand that the value of this 50 lire coin is crazy, but there is a very good reason.

The currency that today will be put under the lens of experts is the so-called 50 lire ‘Incudine’, dated 1954. A particularly prosperous period for the Italian economy which was preparing to restart and relaunch itself in what would be known as the economic boom of sixties.

Printed in 1954, the 50 lire ‘Incudine’ was minted in Acmonital. It weighs 6.25 grams for a diameter of 24.8 mm. The peculiarity is that of having a striped edge: a characteristic of a unique rarity for specimens not even owned by the Mint Museum. On the right is the ‘usual’ representation of the value of 50 Italian lire and the symbol of the mint of Rome on the bottom. The drawings on the faces are particularly requested, created by Giuseppe Romagnoli.

On the scale of value that collectors attribute to coins, the 50 lire ‘Vulcano’ of which ProiezionidiBorsa has already spoken it is classified R3: it is auctioned for a value of approximately 3,500 euros. Things become even more interesting if we consider the 50 lire ‘Anvil’ of 1954: the value reaches mind-boggling figures, with a quotation R5. On September 27, 2000, a copy of this particular coin was sold for over 48 million lire, about 25 thousand euros. Really numbers to make your wrists tremble!
