Just over two years after the official start of sales of the Touareg R, Volkswagen has stopped offering the abrupt modification of its largest SUV in Europe. This shows a quick check in the configurator of the Germans, where the R model no longer appears, and its fans will have to be content with R-Line equipment and a 3.0-liter petrol six with 340 horsepower.
The range-topping R model uses just this engine, but in combination with an electric motor that boosts output to 462 horsepower, making the crossover the most powerful production Volkswagen ever built. Together with a battery with a capacity of 14.3 kWh, the Touareg R can cover around 47 kilometers on electricity alone.
The absence of the Touareg R has not been officially announced by Volkswagen, but the British publication Autocar was the first to report the absence of the crossover in the brand configurator. The Germans should clarify the situation surrounding the more powerful Touareg very soon.
