The licensing battle between EA and FIFA continues

EA has secured the Premier League licensing rights, taking it another step ahead of FIFA.

Since EA and Fifa no longer doing things together, the two are involved in a kind of competition. This year’s EA Sports Fifa 2023 was the last game that EA developed under the name of the International Football Association. But that doesn’t mean that either of them would stop releasing football games now.

EA Sports FC instead of Fifa

EA Sports FC. Under this name EA release their football simulation from 2023. The gameplay of the game will probably not change much though. The bigger question that has been asked for a long time is rather: With which teams can I work in the new EA then play the game?

From the looks of it, not much will change there either. The license agreement with the German Bundesliga was only renewed in 2020 and is therefore still valid. And the publisher has now dug deep into his pocket for the Premier League as well.

550 million euros EA transferred to the Premier League according to Sky Sport. With that money they bought permission to wear the insignia of the 20 Premier League clubs in EA Sports FC to be able to use. If this contract is concluded, it could be a heavy blow for the FIFA become.

Fight for the licenses

There have been a few games in the past that have tried EA Sports to take the title as the best football game. The best-known example of this is probably the series Pro Evolution Soccer by Konami. But like so many others, they couldn’t fight it EA prevailed. The licenses play an incredibly important role here.

Whether a game in collaboration with the Fifa created or not, sports games always depend on the licenses that the developer can secure. After all, games are only allowed to show a club’s logos, stadiums, players etc. if they have obtained the license to do so. had EA actually always ahead.

Was EA Of course, this also comes in handy here, is that we still don’t know who will actually develop the FIFA games in the future. Nothing is confirmed, but rumor has it Fifa with the developer 2k to be in a conversation.

Either way, whoever is ultimately responsible for the games will be against EA certainly not easy to have. On the one hand because they have already secured 2 of the biggest leagues in the world with the Premier League. On the other hand, because EA’s FIFA games are just incredibly popular.

FIFA 23 is on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch accessible.
