Still 3,100 East Kalimantan Residents Await Covid-19 Laboratory Results • beritakaltim.co

BERITAKALTIM.CO – Entering August 2020, East Kalimantan Covid-19 Handling Task Force Team noted that there are still “arrears” of 3,100 swab samples whose results are not yet known from the laboratory. The number is still growing, along with tracing operations and independent sample checks conducted by communities throughout East Kalimantan.

Spokesperson for the East Kalimantan Covid-19 Handling Task Force Team, Andi M Ishak, announced that swab samples sent to laboratories continued to increase due to mass swab operations in various regions. Coupled with an independent swab whose specimens are tested in the laboratory.

Covid-19 transmission is very fast. That is why the level of community awareness is needed. To break the chain of transmission, it must be with community discipline, “said Andi M Ishak.

Update August 1, 2020, there were 272 suspects netted by the Task Force. So that the total suspects will be 9,543. Of that number, 1,433 people were confirmed positive and 5,005 people were negative. 3,100 are still awaiting laboratory results and 5 are probable.

While the data regarding patients were positive, a total of 1,433 people, including 910 were declared cured. Then there were 32 people died and waiting for the healing process there were 491 people.

“Some of our laboratories have not functioned in the past few days, so the results of the tests have been slow,” Andi M Ishak said. The malfunctioning of the laboratory is due to the Eid al-Adha holiday.

East Kalimantan has already tested the swab results to its own laboratory. In East Kalimantan there is already a service using PCR at UPTD Labkesda, East Kalimantan Provincial Health Office, on Jalan KH Ahmad Dahlan Samarinda, Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital, AW Syahranie Hospital, AM Parikesit Hospital and Panglima Sebaya Tanah Grogot Hospital in Paser Regency.

However, even though they already have their own laboratories, the speed of sample testing is not comparable to taking swab results. In some areas, the district government began conducting mass swab tests, which eventually piled up in line waiting for the lab test turn.

Previously, the results of the specimen swab were sent to the Central Laboratory of Health in Surabaya, East Java. Kaltim residents only receive the results back for at least 2 weeks, because laboratories in Surabaya also serve test samples from various regions.

But after East Kalimantan has its own PCR, the trend of increasing suspicion is very high. Even during July 2020, there were 908 positive confirmed patients. Up 175 percent compared to positive patients at the end of June. #le
