As Iveta Ratinika (LA), the head of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, said after the opening, she had been on the stage for the last time while construction was still in progress. The politician did not hope that the stage would be so bright and sound so good.

She admitted that the so-called builders’ cartel case casts a shadow over what has been done, but the Grand Stage was and is necessary and now we have to take care of filling it with various colors and emotions.

“It is very sad that we are damaging each of our symbols in the process of making it,” Ratinika said, stressing that the justification for the increase in the cost of construction work would be assessed.

However, at present it is necessary to think about the contentful filling of this space.

As reported, from September 2, every visitor will have the opportunity to see the Grand Stage of Mežaparks, its concert hall and visit the exhibitions exhibited in the exhibition hall.

A new concert hall will be available for viewing, which, in honor of the 100th anniversary of choir conductors Gido and Imants Kokars, was awarded the honorable title “Kokaru Hall” on August 14 this year.

This summer, the construction of the B2 section of the Mežaparks Grand Stage was completed. During the works, a six-storey high-rise central building has been built, with four above-ground floors and two underground floors with a total area of 10,185 square meters. The machined roof dome has a membrane roof covering an area of 5,324 square meters.

The membrane material is woven from the fiber produced by JSC “Valmiera stikla šķiedra” and woven into a fabric at the “Valmiera Glass UK” factory in England. The new stage roof will protect the singers from the sun, wind and rain, as well as provide the stage acoustics.

During the construction works, farm buildings were built and the boiler house was also rebuilt. Territory improvement works have been completed and engineering communications have been built. The works were carried out by the company AS “LNK Industries” on behalf of the Property Department of the Riga City Council. The newly built stage already has the opportunity to perform 12,874 choirs, which is almost twice as much as before, as well as to accommodate dancers in the expanded dance floor.

After the reconstruction, the stage will be more convenient, more accessible and safer for the participants of the festival.

In total, the reconstruction costs of the stage are estimated at about 80 million euros.
