The Grand Music Award Ceremony was held at the Latvian National Opera on Tuesday, announcing the winners in eight categories.

Singer Samsons Izjumovs and conductor Imants Resnis received the Great Music Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The prize for the Concert of the Year was awarded to the September 3 concert at the Riga Lutheran Church “Amao Omi / Pointless War”. Participants of the concert – actor Kaspars Znotins, Riga Saxophone Quartet, Riga Dome Choir School Mixed Choir and conductor Jurģis Cābulis.

The ensemble of the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”, composed by Agnese Egliņa, Egija Sproģe, Mārtiņš Circenis, Liene Neija-Kalniņa, Ivars Brīnums, Kārlis Klotiņš, and conductor Normunds Šnē – for the composer Žerārs Griz, won the Grand Music Award for outstanding interpretation. “performance festival” Latvian New Music Days “on April 29 in the Grand Guild.

Aigars Reinis, an organist at the Riga Dome Cathedral, received the award for outstanding performance throughout the year for concerts at the church. The winner of the “Performance of the Year” category is the multimedia mono-opera “The Voice of the Human. The Telephone”, directed by Sonora Vaice and organized by the Operetta Theater.

The silver statuette of the Grand Music Prize for outstanding work in the ensemble went to cellist Margarita Balana. Singer Edgars Ošleja won the title of the Young Artist of the Year.

“Music is the language of humanity, and everyone who participates here today speaks the language of humanity. Humanity is always stronger than weapons. This also applies to Ukraine. Ukraine will win,” President Egil Levits said at the ceremony.

The Grand Music Award is the highest Latvian state award in music. The award is organized by VSIA “Latvijas koncerti” in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.

The chairman of the jury, conductor, musicologist, composer Andris Vecumnieks, musicologist, music teacher and lecturer Iveta Grunde, musicologist Daina Markova, musicologist, head of the Latvian Television Cultural Program Ieva Rozentāle, musicologist, Latvijas Radio 3 “Klasika” Rubeze, researcher at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Latvia Andris Saulītis and theater scientist, music teacher Ingrīda Vilkārse.
