Still ongoing embargo at Huawei, they could at least take comfort in the fact that they are still number one at home. But Huawei obviously doesn’t pull that much in the world’s most populous country, at least according to Counterpoint Research. According to data from January 2021, it became the number one in the Chinese market for the first time in the history of Oppo with a share of 21 percent.
Close behind is another brand from the BBK Electronics Vivo concern and Huawei itself, which have an equal share of 20%. Apple and Xiaomi also took the top positions, with 16 percent each.

The decline of Huawei and the rise of the Oppo brand is not so surprising. Oppo has introduced a smartphone on the domestic market Reno 5, which has better specifications and a lower price than its predecessor. This helped the brand grow by 26 percent year-on-year and up 33 percent from the previous month. We hope that the success of Oppo in China will help the brand to gain a foothold abroad as well, and that it will finally visit the Czech Republic and complete Realme, OnePlus to Vivo.
Huawei, on the other hand, lost mainly due to the sale Honor brand. The focus on premium market segments also had a significant effect due to insufficient supply of processors. The clearing of positions in lower market segments will probably have an impact in the future. We can therefore expect that Huawei will continue to decline in the coming months, not only in the international market, but also in the Middle Kingdom.
