A project led by Eindhoven University of Technology has received more than 950,000 euros from the Heart Foundation for the development of smart watches that can signal a cardiac arrest and call in emergency services.
It project, a collaboration with Amsterdam UMC, Tilburg University, Philips, the Catharina hospital and Stan, is led by TU/e researcher Rik Vullings.
Each year, 17,000 cardiac arrests occur outside the hospital. For many victims, this happens without anyone around who can provide and call in help. However, adequate care within 6 minutes of cardiac arrest is essential for survival.
That is why the Heart Foundation is honoring research that should lead to smart watches that can signal a cardiac arrest and alert emergency services. In addition to the TU/e project, a Radboudumc research project has also been awarded a grant. In total, this concerns an amount of 1.9 million euros.
