The round of 16 of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup will be held on 4 December. France vs Poland and England vs Senegal.
France vs Poland
Group D leaders France and Group C runners-up Poland, who advanced to the knockout stages for the first time in 36 years, met in the round of 16. France had the ball from the start and Kylian Mbappé and others attacked on goal. On the other hand, Poland also had a chance after 30 minutes, but failed to score against the aggressive defense of French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and defenders. Then, in the 44th minute, Olivier Giroud, who received Mbappé’s pass in front of goal, tipped it into the right corner of the goal with his left foot and France took the lead.
In the second half, France’s pace continued and in the 74th minute Mbappe received a pass from Ousmane Dembele and fired a powerful shot from the left side of the penalty area to score an extra goal. Also, in stoppage time of the second half, Mbappe’s shot from the same position as the second goal failed to block Wojciech Szczesny and stabbed in the right corner of the goal, giving the team a third goal. Subsequently, Robert Lewandowski returned a point from a penalty, but was unable to fight back. France defeated Poland 3-1.

England versus Senegal
In their other round of 16 match, England, who finished first in Group B, and Senegal, who finished second in Group A and opted to progress to the finals for the first time in 20 years, met face. In the opening minutes, Senegal took control of the pace and even scored an opponent’s goal, but England took the lead. In the 38th minute, Jude Bellingham’s grounder’s cross was flowed in calmly by Jordan Henderson and rattled the net first. Also, in the first overtime, Harry Kane scored the first goal of this tournament from a counterattack and added an extra point.
With a two-goal lead, England were in full control of the game. In the 57th minute, Bukayo Saka combined with Phil Foden’s cross to give the team a third goal which would put them at risk. Then Senegal tried to fight back, but could hardly create a winning opportunity in front of the English defence. The game ended as it was, with England beating Senegal 3-0.
