The current generation Audi A4 has been on the market since 2016 and although it received a cosmetic facelift in 2018, the model still relies on some outdated technology. One of the best-selling models of the Germans, however, remained in slight shadow in recent years, and information about the next generation is quite scarce. Or at least it was until a few days ago.
In a recent interview with Auto Express, Oliver Hoffman, who is in charge of the brand’s technical development, revealed a little more detail about the next A4, which will most likely carry the B10 index. He revealed that the model will keep its MLB platform and will not be transferred to MQB, which is used by the A3 and Golf, despite the billions that would save Audi.
He added that the A4 will keep our familiar gasoline and diesel engines and will be available with such. Most likely, they will rely on some form of electrification, but it is too early to talk about an all-electric A4, which will replace the petrol and diesel variants.
However, the option of electric A4 is not excluded from the plans, but most likely it will not be built on the same platform as the models with conventional engines and will be shown well after the fifth generation of A4, which will appear in 2023.
