Applying GLPO Technology, Jabung WK Production Increases

Gas Lift Pack Off become one of the alternative rigless activities that can help increase oil production

JAKARTA – Through the application of technology Gas Lift Pack Off (GLPO), Cooperation Contract Contractor (KKKS) Petrochina Jabung Ltd. (PCJL) it worked reactivate The Marmo-1 well, which has the characteristics of heavy oil and has been out of production since early 2019. With the implementation of the GLPO, initial production (IP) obtained is 278 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).

“The successful implementation of GLPO at the Marmo-1 Well has a good impact on the contribution of PCJL’s existing and national production. See success story that, PCJL did scale-up and the addition of programs for the other three wells that have different production challenges from the Marmo-1 Well, namely SB-D6 (IP gain 141 BOPD), WB-D15A (IP gain 59 BOPD), and Harvest-North1 (IP gain 554 BOPD),” said SKK Migas Deputy Operations Julius Wiratno in Jakarta, Monday (1/11).

Seeing the results of these wells, Julius said that currently GLPO is an alternative activity rigless which can help increase production. This technology is claimed to be advantageous because of the simple installation, no need to use a rig and the flexibility to place the gas injection point.

Lesson learned from this activity is the willingness to try new things to see opportunities and potential for increasing production,” he said.

He emphasized that the success of technology trials at Petrochina Jabung Ltd. can be a reference for other KKKS. In the future, SKK Migas will monitor GLPO performance and evaluate to see the potential for implementation on a larger scale (field scale) so as to contribute to a more optimal production.

Given that the key to implementation in technology trials is a comprehensive technical evaluation in determining the type of technology and candidate wells, agreement win-win contract terms, and commitment from all parties involved.

It should be noted, this GLPO technology is done with a scheme No Cure No Pay, i.e. no loss will arise if there is a failure in the application of the technology, because no fees are paid.

Julius stated that since 2019, SKK Migas has always been active in encouraging KKKS to implement technology, holding forums that bring together technology service providers, supervising, and overseeing implementation in the field.

“The technology that can and has been applied is very diverse, such as technologyartificial lift, sand control technology, chemical, stimulation or technology rigless work etc. Most of the existing technology has a direct impact on increasing real production in the field,” he concluded.
