At that time, there was a movement to publicize the impeachment of judges who were involved in the alleged abuse of judicial administration authority in the National Assembly, centering on former judges and first Democrats. Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Tan-hee said, “The impeachment of judges is not for liquidation in the past, but for establishing future standards of professional ethics.” “The impeachment of judges is essential. If the National Assembly doesn’t even refer to it, he will abandon his job.” Rep. Regarding this, Chief Justice Kim said, “There is a system called impeachment, and I do not have the idea that there is reality or that it should be impeached.” However, he emphasized, “Once the political situation is a different problem, if you just fix (resign) today so that you can’t even talk about impeachment, you won’t be able to talk about impeachment.” Judge Lim’s claim that he refused to accept the resignation while talking about the impeachment move turned out to be true.
Supreme Court Chief Kim said, “In addition, in the case of Director Lim, the term of office is actually very short and he was not guilty at the first trial.” Judge Lim did not apply for a new term, so the term of office expires at the end of February this year. Deputy Judge Lim was tried in 2015 for intervening in the trial of the Seoul Bureau of the Sankei Shimbun, who was accused of defaming former President Park Geun-hye, but was acquitted at the first trial.
Meanwhile, on that day, the National Assembly voted on the impeachment bill for Judge Lim. While passage is considered influential, the Constitutional Court holds the key to impeachment. As it is difficult for the Constitutional Constitution’s decision to be made until the end of February, it is highly likely that Judge Lim will drop the status of incumbent judge as scheduled. If the Constitutional Constitution decides whether the Impeachment Chief Justice is impeached after retirement, there is a high probability that a dismissal decision will be made for reasons such as failure to meet the requirements.
