A new rift between Sofia and Skopje came after the 16th consecutive meeting of the joint Bulgarian-Macedonian commission.
This was announced by Prof. Angel Dimitrov, co-chairman of the commission, minutes after the completion of its work, BNT reported. According to him, another red line was drawn at the meeting, which was supposed to clarify and agree on our common history.
Our neighbors have challenged the common roots of the Bulgarian and Macedonian alphabets. The talks began overshadowed by what happened in the Republic of Northern Macedonia on December 8th, when representatives of the country said St. Clement had created Macedonian spirituality, writing and literature.
Prof. Dimitrov reminded that at the end of 2018 the joint commission adopted recommendations to the two governments for the joint celebration of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, St. Kliment Ohridski, St. Naum and Tsar Samuel.
The results are zero. We are stuck in the 10th-11th century with PCM and looking at how easily our Macedonian historians from Skopje defend unprotected positions in the interpretation of the Middle Ages, I am afraid that the work will be a little difficult next year, said Prof. Dimitrov.
