Sick Stroll misses third training Eifel GP, Hülkenberg present

12:18 – Lance Stroll did not come into action on Saturday morning during the third free practice for the Grand Prix of the Eifel. In a brief statement, Racing Point confirmed that the Canadian is not fit enough to race. Nico Hülkenberg is on the track to possibly step in for qualifying.

After Friday practice sessions were canceled, the Formula 1 drivers did come into action on Saturday during the third free practice. Due to the limited training time, it was immediately all hands on deck for the teams, only Stroll was not on the track. About fifteen minutes after the start of the session, Racing Point announced that Stroll was not fit enough to race.

In a statement, Racing Point said: “Lance Stroll is not feeling 100 percent this morning and is therefore not in action during VT3. His condition will be re-evaluated after the session, then we decide if he is fit enough to drive. The team will then provide clarity for qualifying. “It is already the second time that Racing Point has missed a driver this year due to illness. Sergio Perez was found positive for the corona virus earlier this year. Nico Hülkenberg was his replacement at the time.

Hülkenberg present as an intended replacement
This time the German is also at the top of the list of candidates to board. If the situation at Stroll does not improve, Hülkenberg will step in and take care of qualifying on behalf of Racing Point. The driver from Emmerik has reportedly already undergone a corona test, also because he would give an appearance at the Nürburgring this weekend due to TV work. Otmar Szafnauer has now confirmed that Hülkenberg is on its way to the circuit. Obviously, if the Hulk has to get in this afternoon, he will have very little preparation time, although his experience at the Nürburgring and his earlier mileage in the RP20 are important advantages.
