Humpback whale after week wandering escapes from crocodile river | Abroad

The cetacean was first spotted almost a week ago in the East Alligator River in the northern Kakadu National Park nature reserve. Together with two more humpback whales, the animal, which was actually on its way to Antarctica, swam into the river. The humpback’s companions have managed to escape from the shallow, murky water before. On Monday, the park reported that the last animal has also escaped death.

“During high tide, the whale swam the last bit back to sea. The humpback looked healthy and actually showed no signs of illness or weakness, ”said park manager Feach Moyle in Australian media.

The animal has been under surveillance since it emerged 20 kilometers inland in the river. Never before have the animals been seen so far inland. Experts were therefore puzzled as to whether the animals would survive. According to marine biologists, the huge crocodiles in the tropical river would only pose a threat if the humpback whale were weakened or trapped in shallow water.

An attempt was made to drive the humpback whale back to the sea with boats and sound signals. It is not clear whether this actually meant the rescue of the animal.
