Emergency declaration signed for the passage of tropical storm Laura

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced signed an emergency declaration this afternoon due to the passage of Tropical Storm Laura.

He also urged citizens today to move to shelters or safe places if they live in areas prone to flooding since Storm Laura will bring about 6 to 9 inches of rain.

The contrast to Storm Isaiah, even though a similar amount of precipitation was expected, is that this time the terrain is more saturated due to recent rains, making it even more susceptible to flooding, the first president warned at a press conference. In addition, the trajectory of Isaías is closer.

If you need shelter, he said, contact your municipality’s Emergency Emergency Management. There are five villages that have already requested the opening of shelters, which will include food provided by the Department of Education and a security team.

The municipalities are Arroyo, Comerío, Trujillo Alto and Juana Díaz.

“Ideally, after 10 pm there should be no citizen on the streets of Puerto Rico except those who are seeking refuge,” said Vázquez Garced.
