Blood bank is looking for 4000 more blood donors | Inland

If a clinical study in October confirms its effectiveness, the drug can be used. Sanquin Plasma Products has the first 3,000 kilos of plasma, rich in antibodies against the virus.

An ampoule of antibodies from the blood of ex-corona patients can be administered as an infusion preventively or immediately after an infection with the virus to remain immune. A total of 16,000 participants together gave up to 50,000 donations in 20 weeks.

“This is an intensive time. Since March we have laid a good foundation with research into antibodies ”, says director Daphne Thijssen. According to her, the Blood Bank reached a major milestone within weeks. “In the research we look at how they work, the development of a reliable antibody test and how many donors have those antibodies.”

“We are still looking for at least 4,000 donors,” said Thijssen. “As long as there is no vaccine available to make people immune to Covid-19, we must continue to do so to protect at-risk groups from serious infections.”
