Warcraft III: Reforged has been live since Tuesday. The remake of the real-time strategy classic has a turbulent history behind it. Problems still remain with the release.
Blizzard released Warcraft III: Reforged Tuesday night after almost a month’s delay. After the problematic beta phase, there were great fears that the game would start unfinished.
The concerns of Warcraft III fans have come true. Complaints about bugs are piling up on Reddit and Twitter. Among other things, players report problems with matchmaking, FPS problems in the menu or even the start of the game. Many dissatisfied customers already want a financial refund because they think it is an unfinished product.
W3 Reforged is like a product of a student who tries learning the whole semester 1 night before an exam, hoping to barely pass … But not requesting 30 € for his failure ?

Also one of the most famous casters on the scene, Jannes ”Neo”Tjarks criticized the matchmaking problems in the esports.com interview at the midnight launch:“ From our perspective, the game was delivered practically without multiplayer. It was very frustrating, especially when you read tweets from developers that said: ‘Join the fun.’ And it was just ‘no fun’. ”
Ten hours later, many gross problems seem to have been resolved. On Wednesday morning, Neo reported that the ladder was now working. However, there are still numerous bugs. “It is not a completely finished game, but it may soon be one.”
The esports.com editorial team also tested Warcraft III: Reforged on Wednesday morning. The matchmaking worked immediately, the game ran smoothly. Only in the campaign was there a small bug: When the graphics were switched to the classic variant, the tutorial could not be played. Instead, the score that was shown after a game was displayed. Restarting Warcraft III: Reforged fixed this bug.
A turbulent development story
Hardly any game in the past 20 years has been as influential and important for esports as Warcraft III. In addition to the flourishing esports scene of the 2000s, the Mod Defense of the Ancients (DotA) was also groundbreaking, which provided the template for the popular titles League of Legends and Dota 2.
The release of the remake was expected accordingly. But in the beta phase there were plenty of construction sites that had to be addressed: performance problems, connection breaks, complaints about the new graphics – the list could go on and on.
Therefore, the development team decided to postpone the release of Reforged by one month. Instead of the end of 2019, the remake was only released on January 28. For many users, the problems still seem to persist after the launch.
After the release, the team has a lot of work ahead of them with Reforged. Over the next few weeks and months, some hotfixes and major patches are expected to improve the game.
