Dmytro Pletenchuk, the head of the press center of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, reported this on the air Public radio.
“(Talking about Nestryga Island – ed.) we are not talking about strategy, but about positional battles, this is more of a tactical meaning. Any locations that prevent the enemy from approaching our positions are important. Given that the enemy usually uses such locations – there are actually many such islands on the Dnipro River – in order to approach closer, to install the same mortar, this is primarily important for the quality of countersabotage measures. Therefore, yes – this location was released from the possible presence of the enemy there”– he said.
According to him, Nestryga is the last in a group of small islands, followed by the mouth of the Dnipro
“In fact, this is our coast… In fact, such islands are mostly swampy, you will have to look for it on the map for a long time, but it is larger than the inhabited islands opposite to which it is located… For a while, it was considered a gray area.” Pletenchuk said.
It will be recalled that on April 28, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky announced that the Defense Forces have returned Nestryga Island, which is located in the Dnipro delta in the Bilozersky District of the Kherson Region, under control.
