In France, 2,000 fast charging points for electric cars will be placed at McDonalds

Representatives of the fast food chain McDonalds in France have announced that by 2025, they will place around 2,000 fast charging points at McDonalds restaurants in the country. It is planned that the equipment will provide 150-200 kW of charging power, which is very adequate so that after eating a burger with fries, the car will be ready to go for the next hundred kilometers.

In France, there is a need to improve the charging infrastructure for electric cars – there are approximately 110,000 public charging points throughout the country, but only 8% of them provide at least 150 kW power. Such more powerful chargers are usually located on the sides of highways, where there are rest areas, gas tanks. McDonalds has already started the implementation of this project and the first chargers will be opened on the outskirts of Paris.

Public officials in France are also aware of the need to make improvements in infrastructure issues, so companies with parking spaces for at least 20 cars are required to install at least one charging device. Also, the French recently announced an additional investment of 200 million euros to promote the availability of fast charging in the country. A similar project is implemented by the supermarket chain Carrefour, which plans to install at least 5,000 chargers in the next couple of years.

Returning to the “maquis”, France is just the beginning and it is planned that similar projects will be implemented in Italy, Great Britain and Sweden. Perhaps in other countries. It seems that we can not think about charging at Latvian McDonalds restaurants for now, but another similar catering chain, Hesburger, in cooperation with Ignitis, is starting to introduce electric car chargers at its restaurants.
