58-year-old Erwin Koeman is already in the hospital and says that a ‘spicy’ intervention is awaiting him. “But they are there on time and that is reassuring,” says the former player who, like Ronald, was part of the Dutch national team that became European champion in 1988.
Koeman was already in contact with specialists before his brother Ronald had a heart attack after cycling on May 3 and had to be taken to hospital in Amsterdam. Two stents were placed there to widen constrictions in the blood vessels.

Don’t be secretive
“In my case that is not possible. The narrowings look different and that requires that a technique for a bypass is applied,” Koeman explains in the newspaper. He says he does not want to be secretive about the procedure and therefore came out with it. In the case of Ronald, the media were already aware before all the family was informed and in panic stories about his health, Erwin says he is not hungry.
Erwin’s problems came to light during an investigation that he had requested. Several people in the family on his father’s side died from heart failure.
