AMD Announces Release of FSR3: Boosting Performance with Frame Complement Technology

AMD announced that it will release “FSR3”, the latest version of its super-resolution technology “FSR”, on September 29th local time.

The main features are features for gamers, such as frame rate improvement using the frame complementation technology “Fluid Motion Frames.”

In the demo, the frame rate was tripled!Boost performance with frame complement technology

AMD’s “FSR” is a so-called “super-resolution technology” that reduces the load while maintaining rendering quality by upscaling the low-resolution original frame to a higher resolution. Since it is open source, its main feature is that it can be used by a wide range of users, regardless of the user’s GPU environment such as AMD Radeon or Nvidia GeForce.

In “FSR 2”, various functions have been implemented, including the introduction of “Temporal Upscaling”, which also uses information from the previous frame, with the aim of reducing the blur characteristic of upscaling.

In the newly released “FSR3”, a new frame complementation technology “Fluid Motion Frames” will be implemented. This is a function that aims to improve the frame rate while suppressing afterimages by inserting and supplementing frames generated between frames.

In a demo using AMD’s FORSPOKEN, in a high-load environment with 4K resolution and ray tracing enabled on a Radeon RX 7900 It is possible to improve the frame rate by more than 100%.

In addition, by combining the proprietary low-latency technology “AMD Anti-LAG” at the same time, it is possible to achieve both high resolution, high frame rate, and low latency.

As a technology similar to this function, Nvidia’s “DLSS Frame Generation” has been implemented in DLSS3, and has already attracted attention from many gamers due to its power. However, please note that this is only compatible with the latest generation “GeForce RTX 40” series.

AMD Chief Architect Frank Azor, who sent out the information, did not reveal which titles will be supported, but AMD has announced that “Forspoken” and “Knights of Aveum” are the first titles that will be supported. We also plan to implement this feature in other works in the future.
