The Worst High-Fat Foods for Losing Belly Fat Revealed by Experts

Experts have identified some of the most harmful foods for any diet.

You don’t need to deprive your body of all the foods you love most or spend countless hours in the gym to shed the extra pounds, but you do need to find a sustainable nutritional plan that works best and which will give the desired results. Making changes to your shopping list and knowing what you should and shouldn’t put on it is a great way to start this rather difficult process. So, experts have revealed which high-fat foods you should avoid if you want to lose belly fat, notes EatThis.

Ice cream

Who doesn’t love a refreshing bowl of ice cream on a hot summer night (or, frankly, any time of the year)? You don’t have to give up your dose of ice cream, but too much can settle on your stomach.

“Ice cream is a high-fat, high-calorie, high-sugar food that is often eaten after a meal that adds extra calories to your day,” explains Amy Shapiro, MD. “I would recommend eating this as a treat and ordering the smallest size available.”

Pizza

Pizza is one of people’s favorite dishes, but this high-fat, high-carb food is not a solution if you want to lose belly fat.

“Pizza is widely available and affordable,” Shapiro points out. “Flour is white and therefore low in fiber, which means most people eat two or three slices per meal. It’s also often topped with processed meats that add sodium and saturated fat to the list. This is a weight gain equation”.

cakes

Pastries, donuts and cookies are common treats found in many households. Usually enjoyed as dessert, they add extra calories to your daily calorie count without providing much nutritional value. So put the cookies back in the jar the next time you think about enjoying one.

“Frequently made from white flour, sugar, and fat (butter or oil), the calories add up and can stick to your waist if not portion-controlled,” says Shapiro. “A donut can be up to 300 to 500 calories, and since it’s fiber-free, it’s easy to eat more than one. Limit treats every once in a while and stick to portion control.”

Fries

Even though French fries are a staple side dish offered in many restaurants, they are fried in oil and usually contain a lot of salt.

“This means a lot of calories, carbohydrates, and fats, which usually, when not controlled in small portions, can lead to weight gain,” explains Shapiro. “Foods that contain high amounts of salt and fat often lead to overeating, and this will lead to weight gain.”

In addition, French fries are usually enjoyed alongside other high-fat fried foods. Fried foods are one thing Goodson warns to avoid.

“Foods that are fried in oil or in a pan are usually high in unhealthy trans fat, saturated fat and calories, while also being low in nutrients. French fries, fried chicken and fried snacks should be limited in your diet if trying to lose belly fat.”

Processed snacks

There are so many prepackaged snacks like pretzels, chips, and cookies that are full of unhealthy fats like trans fats. Some often contain an excessive amount of salt and added sugars. Goodson encourages looking for healthier options for snacks, such as whole fruits, seeds or nuts.
