Heart Attack Patients May Experience Rapid Cognitive Decline: Study

A new study finds that people who have a heart attack experience a rapid decline in memory and cognitive functioning.

According to the study published in Journal of the American Medical AssociationPeople who have had at least one incident of a myocardial infarction, also known as a heart attack, may experience cognitive decline and memory problems more quickly.

Researchers have also found that a heart attack affects brain health in the long term.

The researchers analyzed a group of more than 30 thousand people, and among this sample, 1033 individuals suffered from myocardial infarction.

The study showed that over time, all individuals showed an annual decline in cognition, but those who had had a heart attack in the past experienced a “more severe” decline in cognition.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 805,000 people in the United States have a heart attack each year.
