It was the first telephone conversation between Zelensky and Xi since the Russian invasion of Ukraine last February.
The fact that the conversation really took place was confirmed by Zelensky on Twitter, reports the Russian media “Meduza”.
“I had a long and meaningful telephone conversation with Chinese leader Xi. I believe that this conversation, as well as the appointment of the Ukrainian ambassador to China, will create a strong impetus for the development of our bilateral relations,” Zelensky said.
I had a long and meaningful phone call with 🇨🇳 President Xi Jinping. I believe that this call, as well as the appointment of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, will give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.

It can be concluded from Zelensky’s tweet that he has appointed a new ambassador of Ukraine to China.
The previous ambassador of Ukraine in Beijing died in 2021 and since then Ukraine has not had an ambassador in China.
On the first anniversary of the Russian invasion, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented its position on the issue of “a political solution to the Ukraine crisis”.
Zelensky previously called the document Beijing’s “thoughts” rather than a “peace plan.” However, he emphasized that it is positive that China has started talking about Ukraine.
