An explosion of glass bottles triggered a 27-year-old in Graz on Friday afternoon. He wanted to dispose of acid residues.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., a 27-year-old from Graz was working in a laboratory in the district of Straßgang to dispose of acid residues in glass bottles intended for this purpose. The bottle exploded due to an unknown cause, which subsequently led to the explosion of further glass bottles.
The 27-year-old suffered serious injuries from flying glass fragments and solvent burns on the skin. Three other men, aged 24 to 37, were slightly injured by acid burns after providing first aid. All four men were admitted to the Graz regional hospital after receiving primary medical care.
The reason for the bottle explosion is still under investigation. The fire brigade in Graz, which secured the affected area of the laboratory, and the labor inspectorate were also deployed.
