Iranian authorities have sentenced local football legend Ali Daei to death. He he was arrested at the end of October for participating in protests against the ruling regime.
Daei, 53, took part in the protests and also called for the removal of the Iranian national team from participating in the 2022 World Cup.
Daei is rightfully considered the best footballer in the history of Iran. Between 1993 and 2006, the former Bayern forward made 149 international appearances and scored a record 109 goals.
