YOGYAKARTA – Trainer Myanmar U-16 National TeamAung Zaw Myo, commenting on the results of the match against the U-16 Indonesian National Team in the semifinals AFF U-16 Cup 2022. Aung Zaw Myo also revealed the cause of the defeat in the match.
Yes, the U-16 Indonesian National Team successfully defeated Myanmar in the semifinals which took place at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at night WIB. The game was won by Garuda Asia – the nickname of the U-16 Indonesian National Team – through a penalty shootout with a score of 5-4.
Finding this result, Aung Zaw Myo also acknowledged the greatness of the U-16 Indonesian national team. He admitted that Garuda Asia played better.
“Indonesia played well. We kept trying to score goals, but it was Indonesia who ended up winning,” Aung Zaw said after the match, as quoted by ANTARA.
Myanmar implemented a total defense strategy and attacked through counterattacks. With that tactic, they took the lead in the 44th minute through Nay Min Htet’s goal.
The Indonesian U-16 national team, which was handled by the Bima Sakti coach, equalized through Muhammad Riski Afrisal’s free kick in the 70th minute. The match ended with a 1-1 draw so that it continued to a penalty shootout which Indonesia won with a score of 5-4.
During the penalty shootout, Myanmar only had nine fit players on the field. Because the Myanmar U-16 national team was hit by a storm of injuries.
“We tried to finish the match, even though we only had nine players,” said Aung Zaw.
Aung Zaw hopes that Garuda Asia will win the 2022 edition of the AFF U-16 Cup. Indonesia beat Myanmar 5-4 on penalties and will face Vietnam in the final at the Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman, Friday 12 August 2022 at 20.00 WIB.
“I hope Indonesia will win,” he said.
